Complex contracts often contain hundreds of internal references - Sections, Articles, Clauses, Appendices, and more.
Manually verifying each one is slow and error-prone.
That’s why DraftCheck includes Cross-Reference Detection, a feature that automatically finds, tracks, and organizes every reference in your documents.
🔍 What It Does
Cross-Reference Detection automatically identifies all cross-references in your contracts - such as:
“Section 123,” “Article II,” or “Clause 5.3(a)(iv)”
It works across sections, articles, clauses, paragraphs, and even ancillary documents like Exhibits, Schedules, and Appendices.
The system handles singular, plural, and capitalization variants - ensuring nothing is missed whether it’s written as Article, Articles, clause, or ARTICLE.
⚙️ Key Capabilities
âś… Flexible recognition
Detects complex numbering and nested formats, including:
123(a)(iv)Sections 123, 23, 4 and 2Section 123 through 23Articles 1–12Articles 1, 2 and/or 3

âś… Nested cross-references
- “Article II, Section 2.1” → two separate provisions.
- “Article II Section 2.1” → one combined reference.

âś… Above/Below references
Identifies directional language such as:
- “Section a and b above”
- “Section b and c below”

Why it matters
- Accuracy: Detects every cross-reference variation.
- Consistency: Keeps numbering and usage aligned.
- Compliance: Avoids false positives from laws and regulations.
- Clarity: Presents provisions in clean, ordered lists.
